The Neighborhood
Growing up in the 80s and 90s we lived for the days of running out our front door to go to find our neighborhood friends to play and go on adventures. But the neighborhood wasn't just for us, our parents who were home with us found community with one another as well.
But times have changed as the workforce shifted with many families having both parents work outside of the home.
After our son was born I began to long for the neighborhood I had growing up; a space where our son was free to explore, but where I also was able to find connection with other parents. A space where there were not only other people, but consistent people - a true community.
In 2023 I launched a pilot of my dream and called it "playgroups".
We've been meeting once a week for a year now and with interest growing we are now expanding the opportunity and rebranding playgroups as "The Neighborhood", a place for children to play and parents to connect with one another.

The Neighborhood is a mixed age Playgroup for children ages 0-12. Children are free to play indoors or outdoors, but we encourage families to start outdoors, weather permitting. This is open-ended free play and exploration without structured activities. Parents are responsible for supervising their own children. We usually eat lunch between 11-11:30am, however it truly depends on the desires of the children. We simply ask that all snacks and meals be at the tables. We do not have any food restrictions within our environment, but we do ask that children not walk around while eating. This helps protect our community members who have food allergies.

If you are a Playgroups family who is also participating in Empower Classes such as Lego Club or Bricks and Pieces, please walk your child down to the North Wing at 9:55am.
